Indian Navy ₹449 Crore Pact: To further strengthen India’s maritime combat capabilities, 20 Enhanced Capability Global Navigation Satellite System (ECGNSS) jammers are being purchased. The Ministry of Defence has signed a contract worth Rs 449 crore with Bengaluru-based Accord Software and Systems Private Limited for this. These jammers will significantly enhance the electronic warfare capabilities of the Indian Navy.
According to the agreement, at least 75 percent indigenous components will be used to manufacture this jammer. This jammer manufacturing project is seen as an important step in implementing India’s policy of self-reliance in the defense manufacturing sector.
What is ECGNSS Jammer?
GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) is a satellite-based navigation system such as GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou or NavIC. The new ECGNSS jammer will be able to disrupt the satellite signal reception and tracking capabilities of enemy GNSS receivers. It will also be able to carry out advanced electronic attacks such as signal spoofing and deceptive jamming.
Why is this jammer important for the Indian Navy?
In modern naval warfare, ships, missiles, drones and various weapon systems depend on satellite navigation. This jammer will help confuse the enemy’s navigation and targeting systems and help Indian warships operate safely in a multi-threat environment. In the modern battlefield, missiles, drones and various warships completely depend on satellite guided navigation. With the addition of these ECGNSS jammers to the warships of the Indian Navy, it will be possible to jam the signals of enemy drones or anti-ship missiles in the Indian Ocean region and mislead them. As a result, Indian Navy ships will be able to conduct their operations with utmost safety in any multi-threat or complex wartime situation.
